Can Industrial and NDT X-Ray Film Be Recycled?
Many industrial and NDT X-ray films can be recycled for their recoverable silver. NDT means nondestructive testing: inspection that checks a part without cutting it apart. The film may show welds, castings, pipes, or other components instead of a medical image.
What an industrial film archive may contain
Industrial radiographs can be stored as sheets, strips, or rolls. A collection may come from a testing company, a manufacturer, or a facility that keeps inspection records for its equipment.
Describe the work the film was used for and any product names you already have. Those details are more useful than assuming every dark sheet is the same film.
Check which inspection records can go
Some radiographs remain important for contracts, maintenance, or the history of a component. Have the person responsible for inspection records approve the files before arranging removal.
Keep the approved project files clearly identified. An old date alone does not tell the pickup team whether the record is still needed by your business or a customer.

Mention different grades and formats
Industrial film is made in different products and grades. A mixed collection may include several brands, sheet sizes, rolls, or unused stock.
Give us a rough description and preserve any original product packaging. You do not need to open sealed packs or identify every sheet before asking about a pickup.
Lead screens and digital plates are different
Some industrial film is stored with lead screens or other accessories. Digital imaging plates can also be found in the same work area but are not ordinary photographic film.
Mention those materials when you call. They need to be identified separately so the collection plan covers the right items and avoids mixing unrelated materials into the film.
We can handle the archive removal
For a facility pickup, California Film Recycling boxes and removes the approved collection. You do not need to unpack every envelope or move the archive to the entrance first.
Tell us about locked storage, stairs, loading access, and any site induction requirements. Have a contact available who can identify the approved files and answer questions.
Discuss weight, pricing, and records
We pay by the pound for accepted film, with pricing that varies by type, age, and amount. Call for a quote based on your industrial archive.
Keep the removal approval, collection details, and weight and payment records together. Discuss any confidentiality or destruction paperwork your business needs before the pickup.
