Can Printed CT and MRI Films Be Recycled?

Why can a digital scan have a film copy?

A digital examination can be printed onto physical film. The images may therefore exist in an electronic system and as sheets kept in a patient folder.

A clinic might have several views printed on one sheet, along with a written report. The print is a separate physical item even though the original images were digital.

Does the scan type tell you about silver?

No. “CT” and “MRI” describe the examination, while the printer film determines what the physical sheet contains. Some dry printing films contain silver and some do not.

Use a product name from an original film box when one is available. The number of views printed on the sheet is not a reliable way to identify its coating.

How are CDs and digital files different?

A CD stores electronic files and is not a sheet of radiographic film. Paper printouts are another material again, even when they show the same images.

Tell the team about the whole folder, including film, reports, envelopes, and discs. This helps define the collection without requiring your staff to separate the contents first.

Can the physical copy be discarded now?

Have the person responsible for the records approve disposal. The presence of a digital copy does not automatically mean the paper and film versions can be destroyed.

If the office is relying on an electronic copy, settle any question about access or completeness during that review. The collection team should receive a clear set of approved files.

What information helps arrange pickup?

Say that the archive contains printed CT or MRI studies and describe the approximate amount. Mention known printer film names, mixed materials, and where the approved files are stored.

Quick questions

Does MRI film contain silver even though MRI does not use X-rays?

It can. The print film's ingredients depend on the printing product, not on whether the examination used X-rays. Confirm the actual film type.

Are CDs paid for as film?

Do not treat a disc as silver-bearing film or assume the same payment applies. Discuss its handling separately when describing the archive.

Do I have to remove reports from the folders?

Customers do not need to separate approved archive files before pickup. The team handles film, records, envelopes, and CDs within the agreed job.
