How Much Is X-Ray Film Worth Per Pound?
There is no single price per pound that fits every X-ray film collection. California Film Recycling pays by the pound for accepted film, and pricing varies with the film type, age, and amount. Call for a price based on what you actually have.
What affects the price
Different film products contain different amounts of recoverable silver. Medical, dental, and industrial archives may also include a mix of film products.
The collection's approximate age and size help us understand the job. A quote for one type of film should not be used as a price for every sheet in a mixed archive.
Start with a simple description
Tell us where the film came from, roughly when it was used, and how it is stored. Mention any manufacturer or product name that is easy to find.
You do not need a complete inventory before calling. If all you know is that you have several cabinets of older hospital film, that is a useful starting point.

Film weight and box weight are different
An archive box may contain film, envelopes, reports, and CDs. The combined weight of those items is not the same as the weight of the film being purchased.
Ask which weight will be used for payment and how it will be documented. That makes it easier to understand the final payment and compare it with the terms discussed before pickup.
You do not need to sort everything first
Our facility pickup includes boxing the approved files, removing them, and separating film from the other archive materials. Your staff does not need to spend days pulling sheets from envelopes.
If files are already boxed, tell us how many boxes you have. If they are still on shelves, describe the storage area and let our team handle the physical work.
Include the pickup details
Let us know where the files are located and whether access involves stairs, elevators, or more than one room. Mention any move-out date or building rules that affect the visit.
Discuss the collection arrangements along with the film price. A clear plan should explain the work included and how the film weight and payment will be handled.
Keep the quote and final records
Save the price discussed for your collection, the pickup details, and the final weight and payment records. If the amount or type of film changes before pickup, let us know.
For medical records, keep the Certificate of Destruction with the approval to remove the files. This gives your office a clear record of the completed job.
